About Ricardo Cherbeluka

Born in the vibrant city of São Paulo in 1978, from an early age I nurtured a profound passion for drawing. It was not until 1997, however, that I brought my first painting to life, inspired by the unparalleled mastery of Rembrandt van Rijn. That moment marked the beginning of a relentless journey of study, fueled by love for art and the invaluable support of my family—especially my grandmother, who was the first to encourage my talent.

I turned professional in the year 2000, converting my love for art into a career that intertwines with my very existence as naturally as walking or breathing. Dreaming of establishing myself in the art scene, I sought space in galleries, but the path was filled with challenges and rejections. One such rejection from a gallery owner—who would later become a great friend and one of my first art dealers—resonated with me: "Cherbeluka, go study, you’re not ready to work with me yet," words from Ray that guided me towards perseverance.

In my pursuit of refinement, I attended several studios of renowned masters who became fundamental in my education. The influences of these masters are discernible in my work, but Rembrandt's chiaroscuro technique became an absolute obsession. Since then, I have been exploring the stark contrasts in night scenes, maximizing the use of light.

A transformative encounter with the contemporary Brazilian master Gustavo Rosa challenged me to innovate: "Paint for those being born, stop painting for those who have died." This guidance, along with the encouragement of a great friend, Charles Oak, who introduced me to a transformative gallery, marked the beginning of a new chapter in my artistic life.

My collaboration with the Espaço Paulista de Arte was just the beginning. Then came partnerships with the giants like André and Glen Arte. These experiences taught me that, throughout my career, I have built valuable friendships with people whom many would consider merely gallery owners, but to me, they are true friends who continue to enrich my journey.

At the invitation of the Brazilian embassy, I had the honor of exhibiting in Europe, starting with the Go Gallery Amsterdam, which became my first representative on the continent. Subsequently, I had the privilege of showcasing my work in prestigious galleries such as Galleri Ramfjord in Oslo, Galerie DNK in the Netherlands, and Christoffer Egelund in Copenhagen, among others.

My artistic production remains vigorous and the exhibitions frequent. Yet, my love for art surpasses everything, echoing the words of Rembrandt: "Painting is the granddaughter of nature. It is related to God." With that inspiration, I continue my path in art.

Let's keep it on...
